SRINAGAR: The Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir, on Tuesday organised a one-day capacity building programme on branding and packaging under the World Bank-supported Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme. The event was held at the Conference Hall, Exhibition Ground, Srinagar.
This was the seventh programme in a series of capacity-building initiatives being implemented under RAMP. More than 150 artisans and producers, particularly those associated with G.I, ODOP and DEH products, participated in the workshop.
Experts and faculty from the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) Pampore conducted the training, offering practical guidance on branding strategies, consumer trends and modern packaging techniques aimed at improving market access for Kashmiri crafts in both domestic and international markets.
Officials said the programme was designed to equip artisans and weavers with tools to enhance the visibility and competitiveness of their products. “By focusing on branding and packaging, the initiative seeks to empower grassroots craft producers and strengthen their positioning in evolving markets,” an official statement noted.
The Directorate said it remains committed to supporting artisan clusters, cooperatives and entrepreneurs through training, infrastructure development and market linkages. The aim, it added, is to secure sustainable livelihoods for artisans and ensure global recognition of Kashmir’s rich handicraft heritage.
