198 inspections, 178 milk samples collected in J&K FDA drive

FDA conducts special enforcement drive to check quality and safety of milk products

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 22: The Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), J&K has conducted a special enforcement drive across the Union Territory to check the quality and safety of milk and milk products and ensure compliance with prescribed food safety standards.

During the drive, the FDA conducted 198 inspections and collected 178 samples of milk and milk products from different districts for testing against prescribed quality and safety parameters.

The inspections covered establishments dealing in milk and milk products, with officials checking hygiene and sanitary conditions, handling practices, storage conditions and compliance with food safety requirements.

The samples collected during the enforcement drive have been forwarded to designated Food Testing Laboratories for analysis. The analytical results will be examined and further regulatory action, wherever required, will be taken in accordance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The FDA, J&K said it will continue inspection, sampling and surveillance of milk and milk products across the Union Territory to monitor compliance with food safety standards and ensure the availability of safe and quality milk to consumers.

Consumers have been advised to report suspected cases of unsafe or adulterated food through the toll-free helpline 104 or via email at cfsjandk.fnd@jk.gov.in.
