Budgam, Apr 7: A joint committee constituted under the directions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday visited the Kultreh area of Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district to assess environmental concerns linked to mining activities.
The committee, which includes Deputy Commissioner Budgam Athar Aamir Khan, along with representatives from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), conducted an on-site inspection of the area.
During the visit, the panel examined various aspects of the site, particularly focusing on issues related to mining practices and environmental sustainability. Officials reviewed compliance with environmental norms and assessed the overall impact of ongoing activities in the region.
The committee also interacted with several public delegations, who raised concerns and put forward their demands regarding the site. The members gave a patient hearing to the grievances and assured that all issues would be examined in accordance with relevant documents and tribunal orders.
The inspection was accompanied by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Chadoora, Superintending Engineer (R&B) Circle Budgam, Tehsildar Chadoora, District Mineral Officer (DMO), Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO), and other concerned officials.
Officials said the visit forms part of the NGT-mandated process to evaluate environmental compliance and address public complaints in the area.
