Srinagar, April 8: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) has welcomed the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that the move will ease geopolitical tensions and improve economic stability in regions affected by the conflict.
In a statement, the Chamber said prolonged tensions in West Asia have had “far-reaching and cascading effects” on global economies, including Jammu & Kashmir, which has faced indirect but significant disruptions.
Trade, exports impacted
KCC&I noted that exports from Kashmir declined during the period of heightened tensions, while several sectors struggled with operational challenges. The Chamber highlighted that uncertainty in global markets negatively affected business sentiment in the region.
The hospitality sector was among the worst hit, with hotels and restaurants facing difficulties due to disruptions in the supply of commercial LPG. This added pressure on an industry already recovering from earlier setbacks.
Supply chain disruptions
The Chamber said traders and entrepreneurs faced multiple challenges, including supply chain disruptions and limited market access. It stressed that stability in West Asia is crucial for regions like Jammu & Kashmir, which are closely linked to external trade dynamics.
Call for lasting peace
While welcoming the ceasefire, KCC&I expressed hope that it would lead to long-term peace rather than remain a temporary arrangement.
“The business community sincerely hopes that this ceasefire will pave the way for enduring peace, which is essential for economic recovery and growth,” the Chamber said.
Need for stability
Reiterating its position, KCC&I emphasised that sustained geopolitical stability is key to restoring business confidence and ensuring uninterrupted trade and supply chains in Jammu & Kashmir.
The Chamber underscored that a stable global environment would help revive economic activity and support long-term growth in the region.
