Omar Abdullah lays foundation stone for fruit, vegetable mandi at Wussan Bangil

Tangmarg, Aug 25: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a Fruit and Vegetable Mandi at Wussan Bangil in Tangmarg and visited a Kisan Mela showcasing key government initiatives and innovations in agriculture and horticulture.

Addressing a large gathering on the occasion, Omar Abdullah said agriculture and horticulture remained the backbone of Jammu & Kashmir’s economy and stressed the need to strengthen infrastructure supporting growers.

He said the new mandi would strengthen agricultural marketing infrastructure, improve market access and enhance returns for fruit and vegetable growers.

The project is also expected to generate employment and provide a boost to the local economy.

The Chief Minister also visited the Kisan Mela, where various government initiatives and innovations in agriculture and horticulture were showcased.

MLA Tangmarg Farooq Shah described the occasion as a historic day for the area, saying the establishment of the Fruit and Vegetable Mandi would provide a major boost to the local agricultural economy.

Shah also said a controlled-atmosphere (CA) store would also come up in the area in the future, further strengthening post-harvest infrastructure and providing growers with improved storage facilities.

Minister for Agriculture Production, Advisor to the Chief Minister and other MLAs from Baramulla were also present on the occasion.
