Over 8.48 Crore Farmer IDs Generated Under AgriStack

New Delhi, Feb 11: The government has generated more than 8.48 crore Farmer IDs under AgriStack, a key digital public infrastructure initiative aimed at streamlining agricultural services and improving delivery of government schemes, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Ramnath Thakur, in a written reply, said the government continues to evaluate the outcomes of digital agriculture initiatives undertaken or expanded during 2025.

AgriStack comprises three foundational registries maintained by States and Union Territories — the Farmers Registry, Geo-Referenced Village Maps, and Crop Sown Registry — creating a unified database for farmer identity, land records and crop details. The Farmer ID enables seamless integration of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes such as PM-KISAN, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), MSP-based procurement, credit delivery, input distribution and disaster relief.

The Digital Crop Survey (DCS), another key component, was conducted across 604 districts during Kharif 2025, covering over 28.5 crore plots. The survey provides plot-level crop data to support procurement planning, logistics and input management.

States have begun leveraging the platform for targeted service delivery. Maharashtra used AgriStack to transfer over ₹14,000 crore to 89 lakh farmers for Kharif 2025 crop losses, besides facilitating AI-based advisories and credit access. Chhattisgarh integrated Farmer ID and Digital Crop Survey with MSP-based paddy procurement, covering over 32 lakh farmers in a single season and improving transparency and payment timelines.

Among other initiatives, the Krishi Decision Support System integrates satellite imagery, weather, soil and crop data through a geo-spatial platform to generate advisories. The AI-powered Kisan e-Mitra chatbot, available in 11 regional languages, handles over 8,000 farmer queries daily and has responded to more than 95 lakh queries so far.

The National Pest Surveillance System, supporting 65 crops and over 400 pests, uses AI and machine learning to detect pest infestations and is currently used by over 10,000 extension workers.

Under the ‘Namo Drone Didi’ scheme, 500 drones have been distributed to Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) as part of a plan to supply 15,000 drones nationwide between 2023-24 and 2025-26. A study by ADRTC, Bengaluru, found that drone adoption has diversified SHG activities and enhanced income opportunities for rural women.

The Seed Authenticity Traceability & Holistic Inventory (SATHI) platform has also been launched to create a National Seed Grid, enabling digital management of seed production, certification, distribution and traceability across the country.
