New Delhi: India and Israel have signed a series of agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors during the Prime Minister’s visit to Israel, with a focus on innovation, technology transfer and sustainable farming practices.

Among the key outcomes was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and MASHAV for the establishment of the India-Israel Innovation Centre for Agriculture (IINCA).

The proposed joint centre will work on developing next-generation agricultural technologies, including precision farming, satellite-based irrigation systems, advanced farm machinery and integrated pest management. The collaboration will also facilitate germplasm exchange, demonstration projects, post-harvest solutions and capacity-building initiatives for farmers and researchers.

In a separate development, both sides signed an MoU on cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture. The agreement aims to enhance collaboration in sustainable and technology-driven fisheries practices, covering advanced aquaculture systems, disease management, mariculture and seaweed cultivation. It also provides for joint research and development, training programmes, innovation partnerships and the establishment of Centres of Excellence.

As part of broader agricultural cooperation, the two countries also announced 20 joint fellowships in agricultural research and an increase in contributions toward joint research calls to promote collaborative scientific work in the sector.

Officials said the agreements are expected to deepen bilateral ties in agriculture, improve farm productivity and strengthen research linkages between institutions in both countries. The initiatives aim to leverage Israeli expertise in agricultural innovation and technology to support India’s efforts toward sustainable and climate-resilient farming.
