New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at the Hindustan Times Summit in New Delhi, revealed that over ₹1 lakh crore of citizens’ money remains unclaimed across financial institutions, and urged people to come forward to retrieve what is rightfully theirs.

The Prime Minister said that a staggering ₹78,000 crore is lying idle in bank accounts, ₹14,000 crore with insurance companies, ₹3,000 crore in mutual funds, and ₹9,000 crore in unpaid dividends.

To address this, Modi announced the rollout of special district-level camps across the country to facilitate the process of tracing and reclaiming these funds. He noted that “thousands of crores” have already been returned to citizens through the initiative.

“This is Modi searching for people to claim their hard-earned money,” the Prime Minister said, emphasising that restoring public trust remains the government’s “largest capital.”

He added that the initiative is part of the broader governance push to ensure transparency, accountability, and protection of citizens’ financial rights.
