Srinagar, Dec 6: The Kashmir Copper Workers Trade Union on Saturday organised a major seminar at the Community Hall, Jamia Masjid Nowhatta, attended by hundreds of copper artisans and workers from Srinagar and adjoining areas.
The event marked the formal dissolution of the outgoing body and the swearing-in of the new executive team. Jan Mohammad Misgar assumed charge as the new President of the union. Members welcomed the incoming leadership and expressed confidence that it would bring renewed energy and focus to the welfare of copper workers. The outgoing president, Mohammad Yousuf Kakroo, received a warm farewell, with speakers acknowledging his years of dedicated service and contributions to the upliftment of artisan communities.
The union underscored its five-decade-long association with the Kashmir Traders & Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), describing the partnership as a pillar of mutual support for preserving local industries and traditional crafts. KTMF President Mohammad Yaseen Khan, reaffirming full support to the copperworker community, assured that all genuine issues of artisans would be taken up at appropriate forums. He stressed the need for collective efforts to protect and promote Kashmir’s heritage crafts. KTMF representative Qazi Tauseef also interacted with union members and reiterated the federation’s continued solidarity.
The union expressed gratitude to all participants and dignitaries for making the event a success and reiterated its resolve to work for the rights, recognition and welfare of copper artisans.
The event was attended by Director Handicrafts & Handlooms J&K Musrat-ul-Islam Zia, Deputy Director Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir Mirza Shahid Ali, MLA Salman Ali Sagar, SDPO Maharaj Gunj Junaid Wali, SHO Nowhatta Naseer Malik, and several officials and sector representatives.
