FIRs, Fines for Dumping Waste Near Pampore Wetlands, Warns J&K Wildlife Dept

Ziraat Times News Report

Pampore, Dec 3: The Wildlife Protection Department, Jammu & Kashmir, has issued a strict public notice banning the dumping of any form of waste around the ecologically sensitive Pampore wetlands. The circular, issued by the Office of the Block Officer, Wetlands Division Pampore, warns that violators will face fines and possible FIRs under multiple environmental laws.

Strict Ban on Waste Dumping

According to the department, solid waste, construction debris, plastic waste, carcass material, cow dung, and all other forms of waste are now strictly prohibited along the periphery of wetlands falling under Pampore’s jurisdiction.

Officials said that the wetlands of Pampore—home to significant populations of resident and migratory birds—are facing ecological stress due to irresponsible waste disposal.

Violators Face Fines and FIRs

The circular states that:

  • No individual, group, or commercial establishment is permitted to dump waste in or around notified wetland boundaries.

  • Violators will face monetary penalties under environmental and wildlife protection rules.

  • An FIR will be registered under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, the Environment Protection Act, and other applicable laws.

  • The department will conduct regular monitoring, and action will be taken “without any leniency.”

Cow Dung Dumped Near Chatlam Wetland

The department also flagged that cow dung waste has recently been dumped at several locations along the Chatlam Wetland boundary. Individuals responsible have been given three days to remove the waste. Failure to comply will lead to immediate legal action.

Call for Public Cooperation

Authorities have urged the public to help maintain environmental hygiene and protect the ecological integrity of the Pampore wetland system, which is a vital habitat for hundreds of bird species.

The circular was issued “in the interest of wildlife protected areas,” the department said.
