CCIK Hosts Stakeholders’ Meeting to Chart Tourism Revival Strategy in Kashmir

Srinagar, 27 Nov: The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir (CCIK) on Thursday convened one of its largest stakeholder meetings at Arison Luxury, Hyderpora, to deliberate on a coordinated strategy for reviving tourism in the Valley ahead of the upcoming season.

Representatives of all major tourism-linked sectors — including travel agents, hoteliers, restaurant owners, tourism transporters, the Houseboat Owners Association, and the Shikara Association — participated in the discussions. Stakeholders from Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonmarg, Doodhpathri and other key destinations were also present.

During the meeting, participants outlined a multi-pronged promotion plan involving extensive advertising campaigns, a grand tourism festival, roadshows, and celebrity-led promotional initiatives to enhance Kashmir’s visibility as a leading travel destination.

CCIK announced that it will prepare a detailed memorandum highlighting key issues and opportunities in the tourism sector. The document will be submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office and the Lieutenant Governor’s Office.

The body also said a joint delegation of tourism stakeholders will meet the Union Home Minister and the Prime Minister in December to seek support for critical interventions needed to strengthen the sector.

Stakeholders appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to ensure security for Kashmiri shawl traders and students living outside the Valley, citing concerns raised by various associations.

An appeal was also issued to tourists across India to visit Kashmir during the upcoming snowfall, Christmas and New Year season. Participants assured that attractive and affordable packages will be curated to encourage higher footfall and enhance the visitor experience.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from the business fraternity to work together for a strong revival of Kashmir’s tourism economy.
