MSME-DF Kashmir presents “industrial development blueprint” to Union Minister Piyush Goyal

Srinagar –  MSME Development Forum (MSME-DF) Kashmir Chapter formally presented an “industrial development blueprint” —Setting Up Industry in Kashmir—to Union Minister for Commerce and Industries, Piyush Goyal, during a meeting held in Srinagar today.

According to a statement issued to Ziraat Times, led by State Convenor Dr. Touseef Ahmed, the MSME-DF delegation discussed the region’s pressing industrial and handicraft sector challenges with the Union Minister. The team included Co-Convenor Ms. Khair Ul Nisa, Industries Head Syed Parvaiz Qalander, and Handicraft Chapter representative Sajad Shah.

Meanwhile, taking to social media, the Minister stated that his interaction with MSME Development Forum focused on practical suggestions for advancing Jammu &  Kashmir’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Key discussion points included ways to enhance the competitiveness of MSMEs improve the Ease of Doing Business for entrepreneurs in the region, and integrate local businesses into national supply chains.

During the meeting, SP Qaiser presented a detailed report identifying key opportunities and barriers impacting the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in J&K. He stressed the need for policy-level interventions, infrastructure upgrades, and better market linkages. Mr. Sajad Shah specifically highlighted the handicraft sector’s difficulties—ranging from supply chain issues and limited global exposure to outdated infrastructure affecting competitiveness.

The highlight of the meeting was the formal presentation of Qaiser’s document, Setting Up Industry in Kashmir, which lays out actionable strategies for building a robust industrial ecosystem in the region. The book underscores the potential of leveraging J&K’s unique advantages to drive sustainable industrialization.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal lauded the Forum’s proactive role and reiterated the Central Government’s commitment to supporting MSMEs in J&K. He assured the delegation of measures to streamline processes, improve infrastructure, and enhance market access. The Minister also emphasized aligning efforts with the national vision of ‘Zero Defect, Zero Effect’ to encourage sustainable, high-quality manufacturing.

Dr. Touseef Ahmed expressed appreciation for the Minister’s engagement, calling the meeting a “significant step” in strengthening the region’s industry and handicrafts. He reaffirmed the Forum’s commitment to working collaboratively with the government to realize tangible outcomes.
