Srinagar: The Department of Agriculture Kashmir on Wednesday launched a large-scale vegetable seedling distribution drive at the Kitchen Gardens, Lalmandi, Srinagar.
Director Agriculture Kashmir, Sartaj Ahmad Shah, who formally inaugurated the initiative, said the effort aims to encourage sustainable kitchen gardening and backyard farming, particularly in urban and semi-urban areas. “This is an important step towards ensuring food security and promoting a culture of home-grown vegetables,” he said while interacting with farmers and gardening enthusiasts present at the event.
Providing details of the drive, Seed Production Officer Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmed Mir, informed that over one lakh seedlings of various vegetable crops, including cauliflower and cabbage, would be distributed among farmers.
During his visit, the Director appreciated the efforts of the officers and staff of Kitchen Gardens Lalmandi for successfully organising the drive. He assured that the department would continue its initiative of supplying quality vegetable seedlings to support the farming community across the region.
The distribution drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of farmers, kitchen garden enthusiasts and backyard growers from Srinagar and adjoining areas, who visited the facility to collect seedlings and seek expert advice.
