Property Tax in J&K unwarranted, unfair: CCIK

ZT NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar: The members of the Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industries-Kashmir (CCIK) have termed the planned introduction of Property Tax in J&K as an “unfair and unwarranted measure” and have called for its withdrawal.

In a statement received by Ziraat Times, CCIK said “we were taken aback and turned numb by the recent announcement of the Govt. of proposing to empower Municipal Committees, Municipal Co-operations and other local bodies to impose Property Tax on private properties in Jammu and Kashmir.”

One after another shock wave is being sent in the way of traders, businessmen, commercial people, industrialists et al, it further said.

“The numbness is so severe that we barely gather the strength, whatever is left in us, to say that this Property Tax is un-warranted, unfair and unjustified for reasons best known to everyone”, it further said.

The statement further said, “On one side the Govt announces a “so called” relief package, (merely peanuts) showing empathy with the businessmen and on the other side Property Tax is envisaged to be levied so as to take back the relief package many many times over. It is not possible for the crippled economy of Kashmir to take shock after shock like these. This order is making us feel home-less in our own homes. When trade organizations are struggling for revival of the economy, is this the manner how it is going to revive? This is colossally horrible.”

The call of the time and the populace is to do away with this order in the interest of justice and fair-play, CCIK further said.
