Horticulture Dept organizes training workshop for nursery growers of Kashmir

Srinagar: Department of Horticulture Kashmir today organized a day long training cum awareness work shop for nursery growers of Kashmir valley at Center of Excellence Zawoora Srinagar. The aim of the programme was to outreach the nursery growers with imparting modern technics and scientific approach in the line of standard quality nursery development. In the inaugural session Nursery Registration Officer Kashmir Mr. M Y Malik elaborated the aim of the workshop, its importance and requirement to navigate the Horticulture sector towards progress and prosperity. After introducing High Density farming in Horticulture sector, it has become imperative to propagate true to type fruit plant at par with the imported fruit plants material locally. In that direction it is of profound and preliminary importance that we must possess, dedication and commitment along with scientific and technological knowhow to deal with the challenge, he said.

In the technical session Dr. Wasim Bari, an expert and Scientist from Center Institute of Temperate Horticulture, Srinagar imparted training to the nursery growers and gave awareness that how the scientific and technological oriented practices have replaced traditional practices of nursery growing. He gave a detailed account on pros and cons of nursery development to propagate fruit plant material at par with the imported plant material. At the end of the programme Nursery Registration Cards were distributed among the nursery growers who have registered their nurseries with the department. Workshop was attended by District Horticulture Officer, Srinagar, Horticulture Development officers, field functionaries and large number of nursery growers from different parts valley were present workshop.
