Srinagar, June 23: The Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF), Kashmir, on Monday directed officials of the Shopian Forest Division to intensify forest protection measures, crack down on encroachments, and ensure that no illegal sawmills operate within the division.
The directions were issued during a review meeting of the Shopian Forest Division held in Srinagar under the chairmanship of the CCF, Kashmir. The meeting reviewed key issues related to forest protection, boundary management, and eco-development activities in the division.
During the meeting, Block Officers were instructed to lodge FIRs in cases involving damage to boundary pillars (BPs). The CCF also made monthly beat inspections mandatory and directed that registers at the Forest Control Room be maintained in the prescribed format to improve monitoring and accountability.
Emphasising the need for immediate action against forest encroachments, the chair directed officers to prepare a comprehensive action plan to address such violations. The meeting also focused on strengthening eco-development initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable management of forest resources.
The CCF stressed that accountability and timely action are critical for safeguarding forests and ensuring effective implementation of departmental objectives. The directives, officials said, are intended to enhance transparency, strengthen enforcement mechanisms, and improve overall forest governance in the Shopian Forest Division.
Among those who attended the meeting were the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Shopian, Deputy Director FPF Shopian, TO to CCF Kashmir, Range Officers, Assistant Directors, and other field functionaries of the Shopian Forest Division.
