SRINAGAR, June 4: Prominent Kashmiri physician, writer, scholar and columnist Dr. Javid Iqbal passed away on Thursday at Paras Hospital, leaving behind a rich legacy of intellectual, literary and social contributions.
Dr. Javid, who was widely regarded as one of Kashmir’s most respected public intellectuals, combined a distinguished medical career with an extraordinary commitment to literature, scholarship and public discourse. His demise has been widely mourned across academic, literary and social circles in the Valley.
The son of noted academic Prof. Saif-ud-Din, Dr. Javid served for decades as a medical practitioner in Kashmir and abroad, including in Iran. Alongside his professional achievements in medicine, he earned widespread recognition for his writings on a broad range of subjects.
Over the years, he authored several books and contributed hundreds of columns and articles addressing history, philosophy, politics, religion, economics and contemporary affairs. His writings were known for their depth, analytical rigour and balanced perspective, making him a respected voice in public discourse.
