Srinagar, May 5: The newly launched Vande Bharat Express Jammu–Srinagar has recorded a strong passenger response within days of its commencement, with occupancy levels rising sharply since operations began on May 2.
According to railway data, the train achieved an occupancy of 82 per cent on May 4, carrying around 4,680 passengers across two pairs of services. The following day, May 5, saw occupancy climb to 96 per cent, with approximately 2,744 यात्रियों travelling, despite only one pair of services operating.
In total, about 16,349 passengers have used the service during its first four days, from May 2 to May 5, with average occupancy hovering around 82 per cent. Officials said the figures indicate a growing preference among both tourists and pilgrims for the semi-high-speed service over conventional rail options on the route.
Passengers have reported a positive travel experience, citing smoother journeys, modern onboard amenities, and improved catering services as key factors driving demand.
Railway authorities from the Jammu Division have been conducting regular inspections to ensure service quality and operational efficiency are maintained.
Uchit Singhal said the rapid rise in occupancy—from 82 per cent to 96 per cent within two days—reflects strong passenger confidence in the service. He added that feedback is being actively reviewed to further enhance passenger experience and expressed optimism that the train could achieve full occupancy during the peak tourist season.
The launch of the service is being seen as a major step in improving connectivity to the Kashmir Valley, with early trends suggesting robust demand and positive public reception.
