Srinagar, May 4: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau has filed a charge-sheet against 11 accused persons, including officials of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, in connection with an alleged illegal construction case in the city.
According to officials, the charge-sheet has been presented before the Court of the Additional Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Srinagar in FIR No. 24/2020. The case pertains to offences under provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Prevention of Corruption Act and criminal conspiracy laws.
The accused include four officials of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and seven private beneficiaries. The case relates to the construction of six allegedly illegal structures at Jawahar Nagar, Goni Khan, Hari Singh High Street and Wazir Bagh areas of Srinagar without obtaining valid building permissions from the competent authority.
Investigations carried out by the ACB’s Srinagar police station revealed that the constructions were undertaken in alleged connivance with municipal officials. Authorities said oral and documentary evidence collected during the probe substantiated the charges against both the public servants and private individuals.
“The investigation has established the conspiracy between the officials and beneficiaries,” an ACB spokesperson said, adding that the violations involved deliberate misuse of official position to facilitate unauthorized constructions.
Officials further stated that prosecution sanction against the public servants was obtained from the competent authority before filing the charge-sheet in court.
The case will now be taken up for judicial determination by the designated anti-corruption court in Srinagar. The next hearing has been scheduled for June 16, 2026.
The ACB said it remains committed to tackling corruption and ensuring accountability in public institutions, particularly in cases involving misuse of authority in urban planning and construction approvals.
