Srinagar: A joint meeting of multiple trade and tourism stakeholders convened by the Chamber of Commerce and Industries Kashmir (CCIK) raised concerns over recent developments affecting the business and tourism ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir, including increased ticket prices at major attractions and restricted operational hours at Srinagar International Airport.

The meeting, held in Srinagar on Tuesday afternoon, was chaired by Tariq Ghani and attended by representatives of various trade bodies. Participants included stakeholders from the hotel industry, travel trade, houseboat and shikara operators, transporters, general trade associations, and district trade presidents from across the Kashmir Valley.

During the discussions, participants expressed serious concern over the recent increase in ticket prices at popular tourist destinations such as the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden and the Gulmarg Gondola, as well as several parks. According to the trade representatives, the hikes were implemented without prior consultation or notice to stakeholders and could negatively affect tourist inflow and visitor experience.

Another key issue raised was the daily closure of airport operations until 5:00 PM at Srinagar International Airport. Members noted that the restriction could reduce the number of incoming flights and impact tourism-related businesses, affecting the livelihoods of thousands dependent on the sector.

The meeting also emphasized the need for improved coordination and transparency in decisions that directly influence trade and tourism activities in the region. Participants resolved to formally take up the concerns with the relevant government authorities and seek an immediate review.

CCIK President Tariq Ghani reiterated the chamber’s commitment to protecting the interests of the business community and supporting sustainable growth of tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. Trade association leaders present at the meeting also pledged their full cooperation and support to the chamber’s efforts.
