NHAI Invites Applications for Summer Internship Programme 2026; Students Can Apply by April 15

Ziraat Times Team Report

New Delhi, March 26: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited applications for its two-month Summer Internship Programme 2026, expanding participation to students from a wide range of academic disciplines beyond civil engineering.

According to an official statement issued on Thursday, the internship programme will be conducted between May and July 2026 and is aimed at providing students with practical exposure within India’s national highway development ecosystem. The initiative builds on the success of the earlier winter internship and the ongoing six-month internship programme.

Under the expanded framework, the summer internship is tentatively scheduled from May 4 to July 5, 2026, subject to academic calendars. The programme will now cover multiple engineering and technical disciplines such as civil engineering, information technology, computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, electrical engineering, instrumentation engineering, and data science or artificial intelligence.

In addition to technical fields, the programme has also been extended to non-technical streams including law (BA LLB), commerce and sciences (BA, B.Com, B.Sc), management (MBA in HR, finance and marketing), mass communication and library science, broadening opportunities for students from diverse academic backgrounds.

Selected interns will be placed at designated NHAI field offices across the country or at the organisation’s headquarters in New Delhi, where they will work under the mentorship of experienced officials.

The authority said eligible applicants include full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students from premier institutions, including top-ranked institutes under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), leading law universities, management institutes and reputed mass communication institutions.

Interns selected for the programme will receive a stipend of ₹20,000 per month, along with a certificate upon successful completion of the internship.

Interested students can apply through the dedicated NHAI Internship Portal before April 15, 2026. The portal provides separate logins for students and institutions, allowing candidates to submit their academic and personal details online and indicate preferences for project locations where applicable.

Institutions will verify and approve student applications on the portal to confirm enrolment status. Only applications endorsed by the respective institutes will be considered for further selection, while the final allocation of interns to projects will be carried out by NHAI based on preferences and availability.

To strengthen industry-academia collaboration, NHAI has urged educational institutions to widely share information about the internship programme among eligible students, facilitate timely submissions and nominate faculty coordinators to assist with the process.

The earlier phase of the initiative, launched in December 2025, recorded significant participation. A total of 244 civil engineering students took part in the one-month winter internship, while 149 students joined the six-month internship programme running from January to June 2026.

Officials said the expanded programme is expected to further support skill development and help build a trained workforce for the country’s infrastructure sector.

The initiative reflects NHAI’s continued focus on capacity building and preparing the next generation of professionals to contribute to the development of national highway infrastructure in India.
