Srinagar: The crescent moon marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan was not sighted in Kashmir on Thursday evening, the Grand Mufti announced, confirming that Friday will be observed as the last day of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday.

According to the announcement from the office of the Grand Mufti, moon-sighting committees and local observers across the valley reported that the Shawwal crescent was not visible after sunset. Based on these reports, religious authorities declared that the fasting month will complete 30 days this year.

With the moon not sighted, Muslims across Kashmir will continue fasting on Friday, while preparations for Eid celebrations are expected to intensify in markets and households ahead of Saturday’s festival.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting, prayer and charity and is celebrated with special congregational prayers, family gatherings and charitable giving. Authorities and religious leaders typically confirm the date of Eid after verifying moon-sighting reports from across the region.
