New Delhi, February 25: The Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela, organised by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR–IARI), was inaugurated on Tuesday by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The three-day agricultural science fair, being held from February 25 to 27, has drawn participation from several fertilizer, pesticide and agri-input companies from across the country. The event aims to familiarise farmers with modern agricultural technologies, scientific crop nutrition and improved fertilizer management practices.
Among the major participants is Indian Potash Limited (IPL), which has set up an integrated mega stall by combining its earlier three stalls into a single comprehensive display. The pavilion has emerged as a key attraction for visiting farmers.
At its stall, IPL is providing detailed information on crop nutrition, balanced fertilizer management, animal feed, and products related to the dairy and sugar sectors, along with modern agricultural solutions. The company is also distributing free pens, diaries, bags and technical literature to farmers.
On the opening day, a large number of farmers from various states visited the IPL pavilion, seeking guidance on balanced fertilizer use, scientific farming practices and ways to enhance agricultural productivity. Company experts interacted directly with farmers, responding to queries and offering crop-specific advice.
IPL officials said the company is promoting awareness around balanced fertilizer use, scientific plant nutrition and sustainable agriculture. Central to its outreach is the 6R principle — Right Source, Right Dose, Right Method, Right Time, Right Combination of Fertilizers and Right Water Management — aimed at reducing cultivation costs while improving yields.
The company said its agricultural experts will continue engaging with farmers over the remaining days of the fair, distributing crop-based technical literature and providing guidance on modern Packages of Practices (POPs).
Established in 1955, IPL is India’s largest fertilizer importer, importing nearly 99 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizer material annually. The company imports, distributes and markets potash, DAP and other crop nutrients through a nationwide network. It has also diversified into allied agri-businesses, including sugar mills, distillery plants, cattle feed manufacturing, dairy operations and rural warehousing.
IPL officials said the company’s participation in the mela aligns with its long-standing focus on promoting scientific agriculture and supporting productivity and income growth for farmers, contributing to the broader vision of a self-reliant and developed agricultural sector.
