New Delhi, Feb 3: Jammu and Kashmir has seen over 18,500 households benefit from rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, with Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of ₹130.08 crore disbursed in the Union Territory as of December 2025, Parliament was informed on Monday.
According to official data, 18,497 rooftop solar (RTS) systems have been installed in Jammu and Kashmir, benefiting 18,505 households under the flagship renewable energy scheme aimed at providing free electricity through solar power to residential consumers.
At the national level, the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, launched in February 2024, has benefited over 26.14 lakh households, with 20.85 lakh rooftop solar systems installed across the country. The Centre has disbursed ₹14,771.82 crore as Central Financial Assistance under the scheme till December 2025.
The scheme is demand-driven and open to all residential consumers with grid-connected electricity, allowing households to apply for rooftop solar installations through the National Portal linked to local power distribution companies.
Among states, Gujarat has recorded the highest number of installations, followed by Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Rajasthan, reflecting strong adoption of rooftop solar in these regions.
The government estimates that installation of rooftop solar systems in one crore households could generate nearly 1,000 billion units of renewable electricity and lead to a reduction of about 720 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions over the 25-year lifetime of the systems.
The information was provided by Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
