New Delhi, Jan 15: Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Certification for six additional existing office buildings under the LEED v4.1 EBOM (Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance) rating system.

According to the company, the newly certified facilities include the Learning & Development Centre (CENPEID), Rani Bagh Protection Office and four district offices. The certification is awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and verified by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI).

LEED Platinum is the highest level of certification under the LEED framework and recognises buildings that demonstrate high performance in areas such as energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable operations, indoor environmental quality and innovation in design.

With the latest certification, Tata Power-DDL now has 10 existing office buildings that have received LEED Platinum status. In 2022, four major offices, including the corporate office, were conferred the same certification.

The company stated that the certification followed an evaluation of its green building practices, including the use of energy-efficient LED lighting and HVAC systems, water conservation measures, optimised use of natural resources and initiatives aimed at improving indoor environmental quality and occupant comfort. Operations and maintenance practices were assessed on parameters such as energy savings, water efficiency and carbon footprint, and were found to be in line with international sustainability standards.

Commenting on the development, Tata Power-DDL Chief Executive Officer Dwijadas Basak said the achievement reflects the organisation’s focus on reducing its environmental footprint and advancing long-term sustainability goals.

Tata Power-DDL is a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The company distributes electricity to around nine million people in North Delhi. It is known for implementing power distribution reforms and consumer-oriented practices. The company reported that aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses in its area have declined from 53 per cent in 2002 to 5.5 per cent at present.
