Noida | The Chairman of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) Kashmir Chapter,  A P Vicky Shaw, on Tuesday visited the ongoing GI Mahotsav at Noida Haat and described the event as a significant platform for empowering Kashmiri artisans and promoting Geographical Indication (GI) products from Jammu and Kashmir at the national level.

The four-day GI Mahotsav, themed “Promoting India’s Heritage through GI Products”, is an initiative of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, and is being organised by PHDCCI. The event aims to provide artisans and GI owners from across the country with marketing tools, exposure, and strategies to enhance the visibility and commercial viability of heritage products.

During his visit, Shri Shaw interacted with artisans from Jammu and Kashmir who are participating in the event and reviewed the range of GI-tagged handicrafts and products on display. He lauded the craftsmanship of Kashmiri artisans and appreciated the role of the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir, for facilitating their participation and enabling direct access to a wider and more impactful marketplace.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Shaw said the GI Mahotsav aligns closely with PHDCCI Kashmir’s mission of promoting sustainable livelihoods and strengthening brand recognition for the region’s handicrafts and agricultural products. He noted that the platform offers more than just exhibition space, providing artisans with market insights, national visibility, and recognition, which could significantly boost the promotion of GI products from Jammu and Kashmir.

The event has brought together policymakers, industry experts, and stakeholders for interactive sessions focused on improving business skills and expanding market reach for artisans. Participation from Jammu and Kashmir is expected to create new opportunities for GI product owners, contributing to economic growth while preserving the region’s rich cultural heritage.

The GI Mahotsav at Noida Haat will continue for four days, showcasing certified GI products from across India and highlighting the country’s diverse artisanal and cultural legacy.
