Srinagar | The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir (CCIK) has called for festive illumination and beautification of key tourist destinations in the Valley, including Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Pahalgam, ahead of Christmas and the New Year to boost winter tourism.

The demand was raised during a meeting between a CCIK delegation, led by its President Tariq Ghani, and the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, on Wednesday. The delegation discussed a range of issues affecting trade, hoteliers, houseboat owners, industrial units and allied sectors, with particular focus on challenges faced by the winter tourism industry.

CCIK urged the administration to undertake special decoration and illumination drives in major tourist hubs such as Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Pahalgam and Srinagar to create a festive atmosphere and attract more domestic and international visitors during the holiday season. The chamber also suggested organising cultural programmes, handicraft exhibitions and food festivals around Christmas and New Year as part of efforts to enhance tourist engagement.

The Divisional Commissioner assured the delegation of the administration’s support and said genuine concerns of the trade and business community would be addressed. He agreed that festive events and improved presentation of tourist destinations could play a significant role in reviving winter tourism and strengthening the local economy.

The meeting was attended by CCIK office bearers, including Aijaz Khan, Ashiq Bhat, Manzoor Pakhtoon, Chairman of the Kashmir Houseboat Owners’ Association, Zubair Gul, Youth President of CCIK, and Umar Koul, Chief Coordinator, among others.
