Caddy Welfare Trust, PHDCCI Kashmir Provide Winter Aids to Gulmarg Caddies

Gulmarg: In a gesture aimed at supporting the local sporting community during the harsh winter months, the Caddy Welfare Trust of India (CWT), in collaboration with the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) Kashmir, distributed winter relief materials to caddies at the iconic Gulmarg Golf Course.

The initiative was led by the CWT, chaired by Maj (Retd) R.S. Bedi, and focused on providing essential winter supplies, including blankets and sweaters, to help caddies cope with the region’s extreme cold conditions. The distribution programme was held in the presence of Mr. Tariq Hussain Naik, JKAS, Chief Executive Officer of Gulmarg.

Also present on the occasion were Mr. Ajaz Reshi, Technical In-charge of the Royal Spring Golf Course (RSGC), and Mr. Gulzar Ahmad, General Manager of Shaw Art Palace. The event highlighted the collective efforts of various stakeholders in supporting the welfare of caddies, who play a vital role in sustaining golf tourism in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vicky Shaw, Chairman of PHDCCI Kashmir, lauded the longstanding association between PHDCCI and the Caddy Welfare Trust. He noted that the Trust, headquartered in Delhi, has been extending consistent support to caddies in Kashmir since the 2014 floods. “Their continued commitment reflects a deep sense of responsibility towards the welfare of these essential workers,” he said.

Mr. Shaw also expressed gratitude to Maj (Retd) R.S. Bedi for his sustained philanthropic leadership and acknowledged the support extended by CEO Gulmarg Mr. Tariq Naik and RSGC’s Mr. Ajaz Reshi. He further appreciated the efforts of the PHDCCI Kashmir team, including Deputy Director Mr. Iqbal Jan and Mr. Gulzar Ahmad of Shaw Art Palace, along with Mr. Fayaz, Transport Manager, for ensuring smooth logistical coordination.

The initiative was described as a meaningful step towards recognising and supporting the contribution of caddies, whose role remains integral to the promotion of golf and tourism in Kashmir, particularly during challenging winter months.
