New Delhi, Nov 26: Constitution Day, or Samvidhan Diwas, was observed across India on Wednesday with a national ceremony held in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, where top constitutional authorities gathered to reaffirm the country’s commitment to the ideals of the Constitution.

The President of India presided over the event, attended by the Vice-President, Prime Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker, Union Ministers, Members of Parliament and senior dignitaries. The ceremony opened with the National Anthem, followed by a welcome address from the Lok Sabha Speaker and remarks from the Vice-President.

Several important digital publications were launched as part of the day’s commemoration:

  • The Constitution of India in nine languages—Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Bodo, Kashmiri, Telugu, Odia and Assamese—prepared by the Legislative Department.

  • A commemorative cultural booklet, “भारत की संविधान से कला और कैलीग्राफी,” published by the Ministry of Culture.

In his address, the President reflected on the Constitution’s role as the foundation of India’s democratic journey and urged citizens to uphold its guiding principles of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. The ceremony concluded with the collective reading of the Preamble, led by the President, followed by the National Anthem.

To mark the day, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, in collaboration with the MyGov platform, launched a nationwide outreach campaign featuring:

  • An essay and blog writing competition on “Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman”

  • An online quiz on the same theme

  • Preamble reading activities across institutions

As the nodal ministry for the observance, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs organised its own in-house programme. Officials watched the live-stream from Samvidhan Sadan, participated in Preamble reading and took part in the online quiz, reaffirming their commitment to constitutional values.

Events held across states, government bodies and public institutions echoed the same message—renewing public awareness of India’s constitutional ethos. The nationwide observance highlighted the Constitution’s enduring importance and the country’s collective responsibility to protect and strengthen its democratic traditions.
