Srinagar: In a major breakthrough for the long-delayed Sanat Nagar Flyover project in Srinagar, the Power Development Department (PDD) has successfully completed the relocation of the 132 KV high-tension transmission line that was obstructing the operationalisation of the structure. The department has erected three new towers and dismantled two existing ones, all in record time, marking the resolution of what had become one of the most glaring examples of low interdepartmental coordination in Kashmir’s infrastructure planning.
The PDD’s swift action follows widespread public debate and an April 12 Ziraat Times investigative report that highlighted the power line hurdle in the flyover’s alignment — which ran low directly under a live high-voltage transmission line.
Sources in the Power Development Department said they have achieved the breakthrough in securing land and undertaking the necessary civil and tower structural works in a record time.
Despite the resolution of this critical hurdle by PDD, civil works under the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department continue to lag. On-ground construction remains sluggish, and there is growing uncertainty around whether the project will meet its already-stretched deadlines.
Following the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) issued in February 2025, the foundation work for new towers began in May, with tower materials arriving on-site by July. Overcoming both engineering and logistical challenges, the PDD team managed to realign the 132 KV transmission line by erecting three new towers and dismantling two existing ones — a task many experts had earlier termed as complex, risky and time-consuming.
With the major hurdle removed, the flyover is all set to get operational soon.
