CCIK Delegation Meets Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Raises Concerns Following Pahalgam Incident

SRINAGAR: A delegation from the Kashmir-based Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIK), led by its President Tariq Ghani and Senior Vice President M.M. Hussain, met with the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir today to discuss a series of concerns emerging after the recent incident in Pahalgam.

During the meeting, the CCIK delegation called for greater sensitivity and responsibility in national media reporting, urging outlets to avoid misleading portrayals that could inflame public sentiment across the country. The delegation emphasized that the incident in Pahalgam should not be used to generalize or stigmatize the region.

The Divisional Commissioner was informed that certain off-beat tourist destinations have been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure, but an official statement confirmed they will reopen soon.

Among the key issues raised was the safety of truck drivers and transporters traveling outside the Kashmir Valley with essential supplies. The CCIK stressed that adequate security arrangements must be in place to protect them during this period of heightened tension.

The delegation also highlighted concerns regarding Kashmiri students and businesspersons residing in various parts of the country. They urged authorities to ensure their protection and prevent them from becoming soft targets. Additionally, the CCIK recommended that re-examinations be conducted for students who had to return to Kashmir for security reasons and subsequently missed their scheduled exams.

The delegation further requested that hotel staff at destinations currently under temporary closure be permitted to remain on-site to safeguard property and maintain essential upkeep.

President Tariq Ghani also proposed that all necessary safety protocols be enforced for tourists planning to visit the Valley, reassuring that the region remains welcoming and secure.

The Divisional Commissioner gave a patient hearing to the delegation’s concerns and assured full support and cooperation from the administration in addressing the issues raised.
