Srinagar: Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), led by its President Mohammad Yaseen Khan, has sought government’s interventions to ‘stabilize’ the J&K’s economy. While calling for trader friendly policies, Khan raised his voice against the high GST rates on essential commodities.
Speaking at a press conference organized by the Traders Association Central Lal Chowk, Khan highlighted the economic distress caused by the current GST regime, which disproportionately affects the common people and traders, particularly in a sensitive and economically fragile region like Jammu & Kashmir.
Khan emphasized the urgent need for the government to revisit and lower the GST on essential goods. He stated, “the existing GST structure on basic necessities is unsustainable and unjust. It has led to skyrocketing prices, squeezing the purchasing power of the public and diminishing the profitability of small and medium-sized businesses. Khan called for immediate action to ensure relief to both consumers and the trading community.
Meanwhile during the event he complimented Traders Association Central Lal Chowk a prime constituent of KTMF for making it more vibrant. Over more than 150 traders from Amira Kadal and Lal Chowk officially affiliated themselves with the Traders Association Central Lal Chowk, showing a growing sense of unity among the trade fraternity. This development is expected to amplify the collective efforts of traders in addressing key challenges and ensuring their voices are heard.
Feroz Ahmad Baba President Traders Association Central Lal Chowk remarked, “the joining of such a large number of traders strengthens our resolve to work for the betterment of the business community of Greater Lal Chowk. It also boosts the confidence traders have in the association’s commitment to safeguarding their interests of traders”.
Senior office bearers of the Traders Association Central Lal Chowk who were present on the occasion include Chief Patron Mohammad Aslam Mattoo, Chief Advisor Zahoor Ahmed Shah , Patron Mohammad Yousuf Khan, President Feroz Ahmad Baba, Senior Vice President Suhail Ahmed Shah, Vice president Imtiyaz Ahmed Khan, General Secretary Rouf Ahmed Shah, Secretary Shabir Ahmed Dabla, Chief spokesperson and Media incharge Aqib Nazir Dar, Treasurer/ Cordinator Mohammad Altaf Bhat.
The press conference was graced by the presence of several senior leaders of KTMF, Bashir Ahmad Rather, Din Mohammad Mattoo, Zahoor Ahmad Shah, Javaid Ahmad, Rafiq Ahmad Zargar, Bilal Ahmad , Faheem Ahmad Bhat and Qazi Tauseef who extended their support to both the initiatives. Their participation highlighted the need for solidarity within the trade fraternity to tackle the pressing economic challenges and push for meaningful policy changes.
