Kashmir Valley fruit growers worry for nationwide truck strike

Ziraat Times News Network

Srinagar: Fruit growers in the Kashmir Valley are facing worry as a nationwide strike by transporters and truck drivers against a new penal law threatens to cut off their supply chain during the strike period. The Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union, representing various fruit associations, has issued a desperate plea to the central  government for immediate negotiation with the striking parties.

The union in a statement to Ziraat Times said that perishable fruits and vegetables, especially the winter harvest of apples, could be lost if not transported to markets across the country soon. Harsh winter conditions in the valley add further urgency to the situation.

Fruit growers, already battered by losses in recent years, fear additional financial ruin with this potential disruption. They also express concern about rising freight charges once the strike ends.

The union appeals to both the government and the All India Transporters and Truck Drivers Association to come to a swift and amicable solution through dialogue. This, they believe, will save countless fruit growers from further hardship and protect the livelihoods of transporters as well.
