State Taxes Dept raids over 20 coaching centres in Srinagar over tax evasion reports, seize documents

Srinagar, Dec 8 : State Taxes Department on Thursday raided more than twenty coaching centres and other business premises on complaints of tax evasion in capital Srinagar.

As per sources, on the directions of Additional Commissioner, State Taxes Department J&K, more than twenty teams led by State Taxes Officers raided coaching centres in Parraypora and other areas of Srinagar district.

The Department had received complaints of tax evasion by these coaching centres, sources said.

During searches, Tax officers seized books of accounts and electronic gadgets for ascertaining the tax evaded, sources said.

It is pertinent to mention that J&K government has levied an 18% GST on the services provided by private coaching centres. Meanwhile, a representative of the coaching centres has expressed concern over the raids and ‘the manner these were conducted.’ He said the centres pay the due taxed as per law and will cooperate with the authorities during their investigations.
