New diseases in apple orchards: Horti Dept issues advisory for orchardists

Srinagar, July 25: Horticulture Department, Kashmir, has issued a farmer advisory in view of the emergence of a number of diseases in Kashmir’s apple orchards.

In the advisory, a copy of which has been received by Ziraat Times, unusual wet and hot weather has resulted in emergence of various diseases/disorders in apple orchards viz. Alternaria Leaf Spot, Marssonina Leaf Blotch, and Necrotic Leaf Blotch.

Furthermore, widespread infestation of aphid in apple orchards has also been reported through-out the valley. For the management of the said diseases/pests orchardists are advised to spray any of the following chemicals.

For Alternaria Leaf Spot & Marssonina Leaf Blotch.
Zineb 68 %+ Hexaconazole 4% 72 WP @100 g /100 litres of water.

OR

Metiram55% + Pyraclostrobin 5% 60 WG @ 100g/ 100litres of water.

OR

Propineb 70 WP 300 g/ 100 litres of water.

For Necrotic Leaf Blotch.

Necrotic Leaf Blotch being a physiological disorder ca be managed by spraying any Zinc based fungicide or providing any Zinc nutrient supplement through foliar application. Hence, orchardists are advised to spray any of the following chemicals.
Propineb 70 WP 300 g/ 100 litres of water.

OR

Ziram 80 WP 200 g/ 100 litres of water.

OR

Mancozeb 75 WP @ 300 g/ 100 litres of water.

For Aphids

Spray Thiamethoxam 25 WG @ 50g/100 litres of water.

OR

Spray Thiacloprid 21.7 SC @ 40ml/100 litres of water.

OR
Spray Imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 30ml/100 litres of water.
Note: 1. Spray must be conducted during morning and evening hours.
2. Use only mist spray.
