SrinagarIn a step towards environmental preservation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), in collaboration with NGO Kashmir Concern and supported by Jannats Mission Kashmir, launched a special cleanliness and awareness drive focused on Dal Lake under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

The event, held along the banks of Srinagar’s iconic lake, aimed to raise awareness about the growing threat of pollution to water bodies and to promote sustainable conservation practices.

The initiative was graced by Ellis Hubertina, a 69-year-old environmentalist from the Netherlands often referred to as the “Mother of Dal” for her years-long voluntary efforts to clean the lake. Her presence as Guest of Honour served as a powerful symbol of global environmental solidarity and commitment.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Touseef Ahmed, Chairman of Kashmir Concern, said, “The health of our rivers, lakes, and streams is a shared responsibility. Every citizen and organization must actively participate in restoring our natural water systems. We thank Bharat Petroleum for supporting this much-needed effort.”

Abrar Baba, Customer Relations Executive from BPCL, highlighted the corporation’s wide-ranging sustainability and social impact initiatives, reaffirming its commitment to environmental stewardship and community development.

The drive saw enthusiastic participation from volunteers, environmentalists, and local residents, who came together to clean the lake’s shores and spread awareness about pollution prevention, waste segregation, and eco-conscious living.

The organizing partners emphasized the need for regular community-led interventions to protect fragile ecosystems such as Dal Lake, which continue to suffer from encroachments, untreated waste, and shrinking biodiversity.

This initiative is part of Bharat Petroleum’s broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts aimed at promoting cleanliness, ecological balance, and sustainable urban development, aligning with the national vision of Swachh Bharat.
