As power supply curtailment mounts in Kashmir, chief engineer foresees no immediate relief

Srinagar, Apr 23: Even as the increasing power curtailment in Kashmir has turned even intense,  people are upset that the situation is interfering with their daily normal routine and business like never before.

Despite the growing difficulties, Power Department is not sure when an  improvement in the power scenario would be possible, saying that more factors on the supply side have come into play.

Power consumers from different districts of Kashmir told the news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the present power scenario is worsening with each passing day, leaving their lives  impacted to a large extent.

Adil Ahmad, a resident from Srinagar outskirts said that electricity supply to their neighbourhood remained snapped since the wee hours of this morning till evening, leaving households in a quandary.

“The situation has worsened from the last couple of days”, he said adding that now the people are being forced to reel under darkness for hours together.

Ahmad also said that it is for the time that such level of curtailement is being witnessed in Kashmir and there seem to be any remedial measures in place to put an end to the sufferings of the  people.

Talking to KNO, Chief Engineer, Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), Javaid Yousuf Dar said that nothing can be said as of now about the restoration of the normal supply as the demand has increased to a large extent outside J&K.

“The present power scenario would continue in Kashmir. Until and unless the situation improves outside, the situation would remain unchanged. The electricity demand has increased outside, which has resulted in power curtailments here,” he said, adding that the present curtailments would continue.
