J&K govt forms Export Promotion Board, LG Sinha to be head; Chamber heads members

Srinagar, Jan 21: Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted a 33-member Export Promotion Board with an aim to boost exports from J&K. While Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, shall be its chairman, the Board also comprises nine co-opted members, including the heads of all business chambers of J&K.

The 33 official members of the board include Chief Secretary of J&K, three advisors of lieutenant governor, besides administrative secretaries of finance, agriculture production and farmers welfare, industries & commerce, department of mining; besides vice chancellors of SKUAST Jammu-Kashmir, Director General Foreign Trade, Divisional Commissioner Jammu/Kashmir, chairman Jammu and Kashmir bank, development commissioners (handicrafts and Handloom), ministry of textiles, GoI, director general export promotional council for handicrafts, MD Indian Trade promotion Organization, Representative of Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), GoI, J&K Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO), Excise Commissioner, commissioner states taxes department, Director Airport Authority of India besides directors of I&C Jammu/Kashmir, geology and mining, agriculture Jammu/Kashmir, Horticulture Jammu/Kashmir, MD J&K SIDCO, MD Jammu and Kashmir Industries limited.

The co-opted members include presidents KCCI and JCCI, CIK, shawl exporters, representatives of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) J&K Chapter, President, PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry, J&K Chapter, president FICCI, J&K chapter besides any other representative from trade and industries or handicrafts and handloom sector or any eminent exporter as may be co-opted by the chairman (LG), according to an order obtainrd by GNS.

Among other tasks, the Board has been tasked to select and manage the areas to be declared as Export Promotion Hubs in the J&K. It is to finalize the Export Policy/Strategy formulated by the Apex level Export Promotion Committee constituted by the Government on 25 June 2020.

It is also tasked with to decide any matter related to the amendment of any Government regulation to facilitate Ease of Doing Business (EODB) and undertake measures for taking all principal stakeholders on board connected with the identified export sector besides any other matter(s) connected with the promotion of exports which may be referred to it by the Government of of Jammu & Kashmir. “It is further ordered that the Board shall meet at least once in every six (06) months and shall be serviced by the Industries &Commerce Department,” the order adds.
