Srinagar: Kashmir SSI Unit Holders Association has asked J&K Government to restore toll tax levied at toll post, Lakhanpur for ensuring the survival of J&K’s local industry.
Maintaining that the move “has serious implications for the Industrial Sector in Kashmir”, the General Secretary of the Association, Waseem Ahmed told news agency KNT that the abolition of toll tax has caused tremendous losses to state exchequer as well as Jammu & Kashmir-based SSI Unit Holders and business communities.
“We appeal Lieutenant Governor to revoke the previous decision and restore the toll tax practice at Lakhanpor,” he said.
On behalf of SSI unit holders making a fervent appeal to Lieutenant Governor to restore the toll tax levied at toll post, Mr Waseem said, “The Lakhanpore Toll Post was the only incentive being availed by the SSI Unit Holders of Jammu and Kashmir which has been snatched and instead of encouraging and giving relief to local unit holders, the traders, industrialists of other states are availing the benefits due to said abolition,” he said.
He said Toll Tax at Lakhanpur was a safeguard for the Industrial Sector to check the import and export of unaccounted for goods, contraband and other banned items to and from other parts of the country.
