DC Ramban inaugurates Kissan Mela

RAMBAN, JAN 19: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramban, Mussarat-ul Islam today inaugurated Fruit Show –cum- Kissan Mela organized by the Horticulture department here at Horticulture Farm, Maitra.

He also inspected the stalls established by the different departments to disseminate awareness about the government schemes and innovative farming techniques and implements, besides hybrid fruit varieties displayed by the farmers.

BDC Chairpersons, DDC Members, and senior functionaries of the district administration were present at the inaugural function. Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that Kisan Mela has been organized to create awareness among the farmers about latest horticulture techniques, tools and to motivate them to avail benefits of the government schemes meant for boosting the agriculture and its allied sectors, especially horticulture production.

The DC impressed upon the officers to focus on linking farming with industry to generate more job opportunities, volume production in agriculture and its allied sectors. He directed the officers to sensitize the farmers about all the schemes of their respective departments and make extra efforts for their effective implementation on the ground level. He called for promoting Public Private Partnership (PPP) and Farmer Producers Organizations (FPO) in the district.

Earlier, the resource persons from departments of Agriculture, Sericulture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Handicraft, Banks, NABARD and others disseminated information related to various central and state government schemes launched for the welfare of farming community.

The progressive fruit grower farmers also shared their valuable experience and highlighted the ways by which the income of the farmers can be doubled. They stressed upon the use of modern techniques including modern agricultural implements, machinery, high yielding varieties of seeds, drip irrigation etc.

Deputy Commissioner also handed over Power Tillers to three beneficiaries provided by the horticulture department on 50% subsidy and distributed the roots stock among female farmers under Backyard Horticulture scheme.
