SRINAGAR, AUGUST 27: Police have registered an FIR against five shopkeepers for allegedly creating roadside obstructions at Jehangir Chowk in Srinagar, affecting the movement of pedestrians and vehicular traffic.
According to officials, the shopkeepers had placed matting outside their establishments, allegedly occupying roadside space and obstructing the free movement of pedestrians and vehicles.
Officials said the encroachments at the busy junction also increased the risk of accidents and contributed to difficulties in the movement of traffic.
Police have initiated proceedings under law against the shopkeepers, who, according to officials, had allegedly been causing obstructions to the movement of people and vehicles on a daily basis.
Further legal action will follow as per the findings of the proceedings, an official said.
