CCIK submits trade memorandum to LG, seeks measures to improve business climate

SRINAGAR, July 6: A delegation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir (CCIK) on Sunday met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and submitted a memorandum highlighting key issues affecting trade, commerce, industry and tourism in Jammu & Kashmir, while seeking government intervention to improve the business environment.

The delegation, led by CCIK President Tariq Ghani, included Advisor Showkat Choudhary, Secretary General Shah Adnan, Coordinator Bhat Ashiq and Convener Umar Jan Wani.

During the meeting at Lok Bhawan in Srinagar, the delegation held detailed discussions with the Lieutenant Governor on issues concerning trade, commerce, industry, tourism and the overall ease of doing business in the Union Territory.

The Chamber submitted a comprehensive memorandum outlining challenges faced by traders, industrialists and entrepreneurs, and suggested measures to strengthen the trade ecosystem. Among the issues raised were the need for improving the ease of doing business, introducing a power amnesty for commercial consumers and addressing traffic management concerns.

The delegation sought timely intervention on matters affecting the business community and urged the administration to extend continued support for the sustained growth of trade and industry in Jammu & Kashmir.

CCIK also expressed gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor for his intervention in the recent decision to withdraw the proposed weekly runway closure at Srinagar International Airport. The Chamber said the decision would ensure uninterrupted flight operations and provide significant relief to tourism, trade and the overall economy of Kashmir.

The delegation said the move reflected the administration’s responsiveness to stakeholder concerns and would contribute to the region’s economic recovery.

During the meeting, Tariq Ghani congratulated the Lieutenant Governor on the record tourist arrivals witnessed in the Valley and requested the administration to facilitate tourism activities during the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra to minimise disruptions to the sector.

The Chamber also assured its full support to the annual pilgrimage and prayed for the safety and security of all pilgrims.

According to the press note, the Lieutenant Governor gave a patient hearing to the issues raised by the delegation and assured them that the concerns highlighted in the memorandum would be examined sympathetically and appropriate steps taken in the larger interest of the business community and the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
