1,046 candidates qualify for Indian Forest Service Main Examination 2026

New Delhi, June 16: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday announced the results of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2026 for candidates seeking admission to the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination, 2026, with 1,046 candidates qualifying for the next stage.

The candidates were shortlisted on the basis of the screening test conducted through the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination held on May 24, 2026.

According to the UPSC, the candidature of all qualified candidates remains provisional and subject to fulfillment of prescribed requirements. The Commission said an online window will be opened shortly for candidates to submit or update necessary details, including payment of the examination fee, scribe and assistive device requirements, and cadre preferences for the Indian Forest Service.

The Commission clarified that all qualified candidates will be required to log in to the UPSC online portal and update or reconfirm their details before submitting the application form. Failure to do so will result in ineligibility for further stages of the examination, including issuance of the e-Admit Card.

Even candidates who have previously uploaded all required documents and have no changes to make must log in, verify their details, and complete the final submission process, UPSC said.

The Commission also informed candidates that marks, cut-off scores and answer keys of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2026 for the Indian Forest Service examination will be published only after the entire examination process for both the Indian Forest Service Examination, 2026 and Civil Services Examination, 2026 is completed and final results are declared.

UPSC said the result of one candidate, bearing Roll Number 6300119, has been withheld pending the final outcome of an ongoing court case.

The number of candidates shortlisted this year has declined significantly compared to last year. In 2025, a total of 2,116 candidates were shortlisted for the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination against 150 notified vacancies. This year, 1,046 candidates have qualified against 80 vacancies notified for the 2026 examination.
