Ziraat Times News Desk

New Delhi, June 16: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Tuesday clarified that it is not considering any proposal for a deep-sea energy pipeline connecting India with Gulf countries, dismissing recent media reports suggesting active government interest in such a project.

In a statement, the ministry said it had taken note of a series of reports claiming that the Government of India was pursuing a proposed Middle East-India Deepwater Pipeline (MEIDP) linking Gujarat with Oman and other Gulf nations.

The ministry categorically denied the reports, stating that no such proposal is currently under consideration.

“There are no active discussions or negotiations with Oman or any other Gulf countries on this project at any level in this Ministry,” the statement said.

The clarification comes amid growing speculation in sections of the media regarding the possibility of a subsea energy corridor between India and the Gulf region aimed at strengthening energy connectivity and security.

The ministry said the clarification was being issued to put all speculation on the matter to rest.

No further details were provided regarding the origin of the reports or whether any such proposal had been discussed in the past.
