Srinagar, June 8: Representatives of Jammu & Kashmir’s travel and tourism industry on Monday met Additional Chief Secretary and Financial Commissioner Dr. Ashish Chandra Verma to discuss measures for the revival of tourism and raise several issues affecting the sector.
During the meeting, members of the tourism fraternity urged the government to revive tourism roadshows and promotional campaigns aimed at attracting visitors to Jammu & Kashmir. They stressed that future marketing initiatives should be undertaken in close coordination with local tourism associations to ensure broader participation and more effective promotion of the Union Territory as a tourist destination.
The stakeholders argued that involving industry representatives in planning and executing promotional activities would help improve outreach efforts and contribute to an increase in tourist arrivals.
The delegation also expressed concerns over the ongoing renovation works at Srinagar Airport, highlighting the need to ensure uninterrupted flight operations during the construction period. According to the representatives, any prolonged disruption in air connectivity could adversely impact the tourism sector and affect the livelihoods of thousands of people dependent on tourism-related activities.
Another key issue raised during the discussions was the smooth movement of leisure tourists during the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra. The stakeholders requested the government to put in place suitable arrangements to ensure that regular tourism activities continue alongside the annual pilgrimage without inconvenience to visitors.
The meeting also covered a range of issues related to tourism promotion, infrastructure development and policy support for the sector. Representatives discussed the need for continued government intervention to strengthen the tourism ecosystem and support stakeholders associated with the industry.
Dr. Verma heard the concerns and suggestions presented by the delegation and assured the participants that the issues raised would receive due consideration. He also assured them that the government would address the concerns on priority.
The meeting concluded with stakeholders expressing optimism that continued coordination between the government and tourism industry representatives would help support the revival and sustainable growth of the tourism sector in Jammu & Kashmir.
According to the stakeholders, stronger collaboration between government agencies and tourism associations is essential for addressing industry challenges, improving infrastructure and sustaining the Union Territory’s position as a major tourism destination.
