Jammu: J&K Government has proposed to establish five Industrial Parks/Estates across the four tehsils of Jammu district.
The J&K Government has transferred 500 kanals of land to the Industries & Commerce Department for setting up five industrial parks across four tehsils in Jammu district. It was revealed in a written reply by Minister for Industries & Commerce, Surinder Choudhary, in response to an unstarred Assembly question (No. 982) raised by senior BJP leader and MLA from Jammu North, Sham Lal Sharma during the ongoing Budget Session of the J&K Legislative Assembly during Question Hour on Wednesday.
The identified land has been earmarked for five industrial estates in Akhnoor, R.S. Pura, Deeli, and Jammu tehsils. The allocated land includes 100 kanals each at Gurah Jagir (Akhnoor), Sungal (Akhnoor), and M/s Medicity Miran Sahib (R S Pura), 153 kanals at M/s Medicity Deeli, and 47 kanals at Exhibition Ground (Jammu), bringing the total transferred land to 500 kanals.
Pertinently, the proposed industrial parks are expected to generate significant employment opportunities for local residents. According to official figures, these projects are set to create 2074 job opportunities. The Sole Sungal Akhnoor estate will generate 375 jobs, Gurah Jagir Akhnoor will provide 399 jobs, M/s Medicity Deeli will contribute 1000 jobs, and the Exhibition Ground estate in Jammu will offer 300 jobs.
As per government records, a total of 41 investors have registered for the five industrial estates where the 500 kanals of land have been transferred. Among these, 39 investors are local entrepreneurs from J&K, while 2 investors are from outside the Union Territory. The government has not yet disclosed the names of the non-local investors or the nature of their proposed ventures.
The Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for these industrial parks have been prepared, with funding sources specified for each project. The total estimated cost for the development of these parks is spread across multiple projects. The cost of the industrial park at Gurah Jagir, Akhnoor, is ₹23.78 crore, while the Sungal Industrial Park in Akhnoor has an estimated cost of ₹7.56 crore. The industrial parks at M/s Medicity Miran Sahib and M/s Medicity Deeli are expected to cost ₹20.48 crore each. The primary funding source for these projects is SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India), which is providing loans, and AAA (Administrative Approval Accorded) has been granted for the projects.
While the government has transferred land and completed the DPRs, work has yet to start on most of these projects. Among the five industrial estates, units have been allotted in the Sole Sungal Akhnoor estate, with 11 investors securing land leases. However, work on the ground is yet to commence.
