SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 17: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary for approving Strategic Investment Plans (SIPs) worth ₹475.41 crore for upgrading two Industrial Training Institute (ITI) clusters in Jammu & Kashmir under the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) scheme.
The approved investment includes ₹240 crore for the Jammu ITI Cluster and ₹235.41 crore for the Srinagar ITI Cluster.
The Jammu cluster will have ITI Jammu as its hub, with ITIs at R.S. Pura, Nowshera, Samba and Kathua functioning as spokes.
The Srinagar cluster will have ITI Srinagar as its hub, with ITIs at Ganderbal, Kangan, Budgam and Charar-i-Sharief serving as spokes.
The initiative will follow a hub-and-spoke model to upgrade training infrastructure, introduce contemporary courses and align curricula with changing industry requirements and domestic and global skill demands.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the investment would strengthen industry linkages, promote outcome-based training and equip the youth of Jammu & Kashmir with industry-ready skills, improving their employability and access to livelihood opportunities.
He said the initiative would help transform ITIs into modern skill development hubs and ensure that vocational training remains responsive to evolving economic needs and emerging employment opportunities.
