New Delhi, October 13: The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has reopened registrations for the IndiaSkills Competition 2026–27 until October 19, following requests from institutions and aspiring participants.
The ministry said the decision followed renewed interest in skills competitions after Team India secured 10th position globally at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, winning six silver medals and 20 Medallions for Excellence.
The competition has already received approximately four lakh registrations, according to the ministry.
The ministry said the decision to reopen registrations followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interaction with Team India’s WorldSkills competitors at his residence in New Delhi on October 9. The interaction, it said, generated further requests from institutions and young aspirants seeking an opportunity to participate in the national competition.
Organised under the ministry’s aegis, with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) as implementation partner, IndiaSkills 2026–27 covers 63 skill categories across manufacturing, engineering, construction, digital technologies, creative industries and services.
The competition follows a progression through district or zonal, state, regional and national levels, providing participants an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and compete against national and international benchmarks.
Successful candidates can work towards opportunities to represent India at international skills competitions.
The ministry has urged state governments, Union Territory administrations, Industrial Training Institutes, polytechnics, colleges, skill training institutions and industry partners to publicise the extended deadline and facilitate registrations.
At WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, India fielded its largest-ever contingent of 70 competitors across 63 skills. The team’s 10th-place finish improved on its 13th-place ranking at WorldSkills Lyon 2024.
The registration window for IndiaSkills 2026–27 closes on October 19, 2026.
