India’s textile exports rise 16.1% to ₹29,776 crore in August

New Delhi: India’s textile exports rose 16.1% year-on-year to ₹29,776 crore in August 2026, compared with ₹25,656 crore in the same month last year, according to data released by the Ministry of Textiles.

Cumulative textile exports during April–August 2026 reached ₹1.43 lakh crore, registering a 10.3% increase over the corresponding period of 2025.

Handicrafts, cotton textiles lead growth

The export growth in August was broad-based across major textile segments.

Handicrafts, excluding handmade carpets, recorded the highest growth at 41.4% during the month. Exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups and handloom products increased by 24.1%, while man-made yarn, fabrics and made-ups grew by 19.9%.

Carpet exports rose 15.0%, while ready-made garments of all textiles recorded 6.1% growth in August.

The cumulative April–August performance also remained positive across major segments. Cotton textiles grew by 18.0%, man-made textiles by 13.6%, carpets by 11.9% and handicrafts by 44.0%.

The Ministry said the sustained growth across major textile categories reflected increasing competitiveness and diversification of India’s textile export basket.

It attributed the performance to improved market access, policy interventions and continued efforts towards value addition and market diversification.

The textile sector remains a major contributor to India’s manufacturing base, employment and overall export performance, the Ministry said.
