Trade unions briefed on labour law reforms, workers’ rights and implementation framework
Srinagar, July 30: The Labour Department on Thursday organised a stakeholder awareness programme on the Labour Codes in Srinagar, bringing together representatives of trade unions from across Kashmir to discuss labour law reforms, workers’ rights, social protection and the implementation of the new labour framework.
The programme, aimed at strengthening labour governance and promoting awareness of recent reforms, featured technical sessions and interactive discussions on key provisions of the Labour Codes.
Addressing the gathering, Labour Commissioner S. Charandeep Singh said the Labour Codes were intended to create a modern, transparent and worker-centric labour administration. He emphasised that sustained awareness among trade unions and other stakeholders was essential for the smooth implementation of the new legal framework and for safeguarding the rights and welfare of workers.
He said the department remained committed to promoting awareness, strengthening institutional capacity and fostering collaboration with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the Labour Codes. He also urged trade unions to play an active role in spreading awareness among workers so that the benefits of labour reforms reach every workplace.
The programme was attended by Special Secretary, Labour & Employment Department, Pawan Kumar Parihar, Additional Secretary Umesh Sharma, Deputy Labour Commissioner (Central) Masarat Hashim, Deputy Labour Commissioner, Kashmir, Najwan Nazki, and other senior officials.
Technical sessions were conducted by Assistant Labour Commissioner, Anantnag, Peer Zameer Ahmad, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Budgam, Zamir Ali Ganie, and Under Secretary, Labour & Employment Department, Waheed Ahmed.
The resource persons made presentations on the key provisions of the Labour Codes, covering workers’ rights, employer obligations, registration procedures, compliance requirements, grievance redressal mechanisms and the evolving framework of labour welfare and social security.
An interactive question-and-answer session followed, during which representatives of various trade unions raised practical issues and sought clarifications on different aspects of the Labour Codes. Officials responded to the queries and discussed implementation-related concerns.
The Labour Department said it would continue organising similar stakeholder outreach programmes across Jammu & Kashmir to promote awareness, encourage dialogue and facilitate effective implementation of the Labour Codes for the benefit of both workers and employers.
